"Dear Mr. Davis, I read your book recently- Fields of the Fatherless. The timing was perfect as it often is when God is at work. We took in my brother's three children over three years ago and I suppose life is getting easier in some ways but we are still struggling.
Prior to my reading your very wonderful, touching and inspiring story my husband had
been repeatedly saying, 'God wants us to care for the widows and orphans' and also 'When are you going to find a new home for these children?' I was really struggling with all of this when I went for the first time to a local Christian book store and the cashier convinced me to buy your book- I suppose it was a special they were offering. I read it that evening and the next morning before I got out of bed I read a couple of excerpts to my husband and suggested that he give this more thought before he turns away from what God has tasked us with. He pretended to be asleep but he is more committed to the daily struggles we encounter and has not asked when I am finding a new home for these children.
We have four children of our own ages 14-24 and my two nephews and niece are ages 7, 11 & 12. These three kids have experienced a lot of neglect and who really knows what else. We saw them maybe twice a year at big family gatherings and did not realize the extent of the family problems until the state stepped in and took the children from my brother and his wife. I could not have come this far had I not heard a voice very distinctly tell me to 'Get ready to adopt' in June of 2001 when I was alone in my home getting ready for work. Those words, which did not have a meaning for me until April 1, 2002, when we first got a call about a problem in my brother's family, those words were a banner of HOPE for me that God has not abandoned me and will carry me through no matter what.
Your book is like a raft in this uncertain sea we are sailing in. Your book is something tangible I can cling to and know again that God is with me, with us, and that we are not alone. Thank you for the hardships you have endured as a child and as an adult to enable you to write words of truth that can reach out to me and others like me. I know that I have much to be thankful for and I am trying to share what I have and still preserve the core of beauty that is my family from the chaos that these children- especially the boys- bring to us. It isn't ever easy, is it?
Thank you.
Thank you for the wonderful message of your book. You put into words the very thoughts God has been working in me the last few months. I believe your words contained the power of the message to a point of putting me over the edge, and making a commitment to be involved in the ministries, and the lives of people who are at the very heart of God. I was so moved by your message, I bought 10 copies and handed them out a church this morning.
God Bless You.

I am a servant in Mexico with orphaned "handicapped" children.
Your book is an inspiration... AWESOME!!! Trying to save up and buy a bunch
to give to Christian friends. We soooo need more servants in this ministry!
You have captured Jesus heart in your book, sooooo well. Your writing is
convicting, inspirational and right on target for the PASSIONATE HEART OF
THE LORD, for HIS needy ones.
Interested in following your continued ministry!
GOD BLESS YOU!

I read your book about 3 weeks ago. I have to
tell you it's been on my heart ever since I put the book down. I 've never
had a heart particularly for missions or for orphanges, however I 've always
had a heart for children. I had lunch with my sister yesterday and we
stumbled upon the topic of orphanges and children the need to literally see
God's love. I was overcome by the comment in your book about seeing the face
of God in these children. The Lord had really put on my heart that helping
these children I am literally taking care of his personal business. I no
longer want to be a Christian that has motionless conviction...I want to
live it...I want to "just get it". So if you could help me with
some information of getting involved with these children in Russia, I would
be very greatful. I want to make a difference. Thank you for your time.
i feel I have known you for some time now since I read your
book. and I feel the love of God in you. I would love to share your books to
others members in my congreation, I am currently serving in OIF3, in Iraq,
and I attend cathedral of Fresh Fire church in Wilmington, Delaware, and
serve on the deacon and my wife and I head the couple ministry, but reading
your book made me see more of my purpose in life. first I want to ask how
can I start my own non-profit organization in helping others, and second can
you donate a few books for the cause, so I can hand them to some men of the
church. very encouraging book. p.s. I have also gathered together thoughts
of some of the friends here in iraq, and made a book called Psalms of
Iraq. can you forward it for me? please respond on either idea.
By profession I am a police officer in a major metropolitan area, in my
off-duty time I work with a local mission serving our homeless and their
children. Having recently completed my dissertation on the topic 'The
Christian Response to Homelessness in America,' I was encouraged - literally
with tears of joy, as I read through your book! THANK YOU for such an
insightful and well written book. The Fields of the Fatherless truly is what
Christianity is all about! I am so glad to see the plight of our fellow
brothers and sisters articulated with such humility, encouragement and
scriptural integrity. May it open the eyes, and hearts of our generation.
God Bless you.
